Tropical Cocktail In A Washing Machine
Smell of soap and well water.
raindrops collected in a cup of steel.
Teenage brothers kissing each other on the lips.
(a whisper of “don’t tell anyone” echoing from ear to ear)
while aunties and sisters sway and move their hips in pastel colored dresses, with pink tea roses on their hair, sweat decorated on their brow.
for a man somewhere arriving on a boat with other men just like him, in suits.
Men and women lined up for handshakes and hand waves.
Confetti and petals in the air.
Sound of beating drums and old washing machines blending orange juice.
The sun, turning guava pink
The surrealism of this reality.
fear of being lost, of being found.
