Brian Peel — Diamond and the Rough

He’s rough when attacks
Triple crown with the bat
Deep breath when relaxed.

At his victims he laughs
Overconfidence his mask
Till he strikes his match.

Back draft steals his gasps
Suddenly feels detached
Fire blows past his grasp.

Shallow breaths too fast
Hesitant lungs collapse
Underestimated his task.

Irony has hit
Stupefied by its presence
Antithesis gave a gift

Pacifist in a diamond
No hitter by design
Strikeout, ponder on pine.
